Audit trail (AI usage)
An AI audit trail is the logged record of AI interactions — who used which tool, what was caught, what was allowed — the evidence layer regulators and clients ask for.
An audit trail for AI usage records the events that governance claims depend on: tool and destination, user and team, policy triggers, redactions applied, exceptions granted. It answers "show me" — from a client security questionnaire, an auditor, or a regulator after an incident.
Duties of supervision make the trail more than hygiene: a law firm demonstrating supervision, a CPA firm demonstrating safeguards, an insurer demonstrating governance all need contemporaneous records, not reconstructions. Prevention events double as the awareness metric programs report to leadership.
