Context window
The context window is the maximum amount of text an AI model can consider in one exchange — and the reason tools encourage pasting whole documents.
The context window is a model's working memory: the total tokens of conversation, documents, and instructions it can attend to at once. Modern models accept hundreds of pages, which transformed usage — instead of retyping excerpts, people attach entire contracts, codebases, and exports.
Bigger windows mean bigger payloads per prompt. The convenience that makes long-context models productive is the same property that turns one paste into a bulk disclosure, which is why upload and paste events are where AI data-loss controls concentrate.
