Social engineering manipulates people rather than systems, and generative AI removed its traditional weaknesses: broken English, generic templates, one-at-a-time effort. Attackers now produce fluent, personalized lures at scale, clone voices for phone fraud, and run interactive impersonations.
Awareness programs are adapting on two fronts: teaching people that polish is no longer a trust signal, and adding controls that don't depend on human vigilance — verification procedures for payment changes, and technical checks at the points where data and money move.
